Second St., in 1998. Nika Cummings left more than four years ago to work as a public defender. Now, she\u2019s returning.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe\u2019s had really great success as a public defender,\u201d Bill Cummings says of his wife.<\/p>\n<p>She first worked for the Sedgwick County public defender\u2019s office and then the county\u2019s conflict office.<\/p>\n<p>Cummings says his wife won 10 acquittals out of her last 12 cases, \u201cwhich is just unheard of really.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>When Nika Cummings previously was at the firm, she worked part time there and as Mulvane\u2019s prosecutor while also raising the couple\u2019s four children. Once the kids were in school, she began her full-time public work.<\/p>\n<p>Now, Bill Cummings says, his wife would like to try private practice again \u2013 and have the often more lucrative salary that accompanies it.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s fine by him, especially since they regularly confer about cases anyway.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe\u2019s just really good at what she does,\u201d Cummings says. \u201cShe\u2019s not only persuasive in the courtroom but \u2026 the office as well.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>WICHITA \u2014\u00a0Cummings &amp; Cummings is once again going to have a Cummings and a Cummings.
