Fun or Fright? Halloween and DUIs

Holidays are a portion of each year that people enjoy all over. Whether we are celebrating a religious holiday, embracing and remembering our country’s history and freedom, or simply giving thanks we celebrate these holidays in many mannerisms with a certain sense of tradition, but also with some new changes each year. One holiday that tends to excite not only children, but also young adults, and adults alike is that of Halloween.

Will You Be Coming Home With A Bag of Candy, or A DUI?

Halloween is the certain holiday that allows kids to be kids, and parents to embrace their childhood once again. From trick-or-treating, to Halloween costume parties of all sorts Halloween not only gives us the ability to have a great time, but also do so in the cool, Fall air that is now finally upon us. However, there is another aspect that can soon fall upon us, and ultimately put us, and our children in extreme danger, which is that of a DUI. Halloween has become an infamous holiday for DUIs within the past, which have not only resulted in individuals dealing with serious consequences, but also accidents that have resulted in serious injuries, as well as death.

The man issue with Halloween and DUIs is the fact that this holiday produces so many out on the road, not as vehicle operators, but as pedestrians. Children, their friends, and their family set off from their homes going door-to-door in hope that when they return they will be the victor of who got the most candy. Unfortunately, some adults are turning away from safety and care, and ultimately decide that the should dress up in an orange jump suit not only for Halloween, but potentially the remainder of their lives.

Halloween is that time of the year that we are able to live a little, and have a great time. However, make sure that you do so in a controlled environment with alcohol, and yourself, not cohesively behind the wheel. As a parent, make sure that you, and your children when walking outside trick-or-treating are clearly visible, use sidewalks, follow traffic signs and signals, and use reflective objects, or flashlights in order to alert drivers of your presence.
